Using 一边 (yìbiān)...一边 (yìbiān) for simultaneous actions

In Chinese, the structure 一边 (yìbiān)...一边 (yìbiān) is used to describe two actions that are happening simultaneously.

This pattern is similar to the English usage of 'while' or 'at the same time'.

Examples:
我一边喝咖啡一边读书。
wǒ yìbiān hē kāfēi yìbiān dúshū.
I read a book while drinking coffee.
她一边做作业一边听音乐。
tā yìbiān zuò zuòyè yìbiān tīng yīnyuè.
She does homework while listening to music.
我们一边看电影一边吃爆米花。
wǒmen yìbiān kàn diànyǐng yìbiān chī bàomǐhuā.
We eat popcorn while watching a movie.

爆米花 (bàomǐhuā) means 'popcorn'

她一边开会一边做笔记。
tā yìbiān kāihuì yìbiān zuò bǐjì.
She takes notes while attending a meeting.
我们一边吃早餐一边谈论新闻。
wǒmen yìbiān chī zǎocān yìbiān tánlùn xīnwén.
We discuss the news while having breakfast.

谈论 (tánlùn) means 'discuss'

新闻 (xīnwén) means 'news'

他一边修车一边听新闻。
tā yìbiān xiū chē yìbiān tīng xīnwén.
He listens to the news while fixing the car.
我们一边准备晚餐一边聊天。
wǒmen yìbiān zhǔnbèi wǎncān yìbiān liáotiān.
We chat while preparing dinner.

晚餐 (wǎncān) means 'dinner'

禁止一边开车一边打电话。
jìnzhǐ yìbiān kāichē yìbiān dǎ diànhuà.
It is forbidden to drive while talking on the phone.

禁止 (jìnzhǐ) means 'to prohibit' or 'to forbid'

谁在一边洗澡一边唱歌?
shéi zài yìbiān xǐzǎo yìbiān chànggē
Who is that singing while taking a bath?
我爸爸喜欢一边吃饭一边看电视。
wǒ bàba xǐhuān yìbiān chīfàn yìbiān kàn diànshì.
