Whatever, whoever, whenever - the subjunctive with quoi que, qui que & où que

The subjunctive is used with concessive conjunctions like:

• quoi que means 'whatever'

• qui que means 'whoever'

• où que means 'wherever'

Note that quoi que ce soit ('whatever (thing)') and qui que ce soit ('whichever person') are frequently used as indefinite pronouns in their own right.

The common pattern si + + que meaning 'however' or 'no matter how' something (is)' also takes a subjunctive subordinate clause.

-- For example 'No matter how big it (is)...' or 'However strange it (is)…'.

Examples:
	Quoi que je fasse, il semble que j'ai des problèmes. Whatever I do, it seems that I have problems.
	Où que je sois, je pense à toi. Wherever I am, I think of you (familiar).
	Qui que vous soyez, je vous demande de partir. Whoever you are, I'm asking you (formal) to leave.
	Quoi que vous fassiez, vous devez arrêter tout de suite ! Whatever you do, you (formal) must stop immediately!
	Il leur donne quoi qu'ils veuillent. He gives them whatever they want.
	Si tu as besoin de quoi que ce soit, fais-le-nous savoir. If you (familiar) need anything, let us know.
	J'ai toujours mon mobile avec moi, où que j'aille. I always have my mobile with me, wherever I go.
	Vous devez vous adresser à qui que soit de responsable. You (formal) should contact whoever is responsible.
	Quoi que tu fasses, ne dis rien à mon petit ami ! Whatever you (familiar) do, don't tell my boyfriend!
	Où que j'aille dans la vie, je me souviendrai de votre gentillesse. Wherever I go in life, I will remember your (formal) kindness.
	Toute personne, d'où qu'elle vienne, doit obéir à la loi du pays. Everyone, no matter not matter where they come from, must obey the law of the land.
	Quoi qu'il te dise, je ne lui fais pas confiance. Whatever his arguments, I don't trust him.
	Si tu veux changer quoi que ce soit dans ton appartement, il faut demander au propriétaire. If you (familiar) want to change anything in your apartment, you have to ask the landlord. quoi que ce soit here is used as a noun quoi que ce soit (m) means 'whatever'
